Current programme
Thursday Feb 16th -
- The Wines Of North East Italy
Ben Robson is an independent wine merchant whose Company 'Bat & Bottle' is based
in Oakham, Rutland. His speciality is Italian wines and, in particular, those
from the North-East of that country. He has kindly agreed to come and show us a
selection of his favourite wines from there.
Tuesday March 13th -
- AGM & Blind Tasting
After a brief AGM, David McWilliam of Bin Two, Padstow (last year's winner) will
introduce our annual Blind Tasting. Clues are revealed along the way as we try
to guess the identities of a range of mystery wines.
Thursday April 19th -
– Sherry, Chris James
Sherry sales are on the increase and perhaps this should be no surprise. Sherry
is unique and one of the world’s great fine wines. It is also remarkably good
value. We will taste the many styles from bone dry, tangy Manzanilla through to
30 year old sweet and figgy Oloroso.
Tuesday May 15th - Chenin Blanc & Cabernet Franc, Val MacLeod & Carolyn Meikle
An international selection from traditional originals to new world
interpretations & ranging in price from the elevated to the accessible. We aim
to hunt down & explore these less well known varieties.
Friday June 15th - Al Fresco
An informal, outdoor event with food, a chance to wander the lovely gardens of
Polgwynne, Feock with glass in hand... – perhaps this year with weather to do
the setting suitable justice.
Thursday July 19th – Argentina
During the last couple of years, Argentina has acquired the reputation of being
the country providing the best value for people buying wine. Certainly it
provides a range of wines - many of them delicious and keenly priced - that as
Decanter noted 'is getting better and more complex year after year'. We will be
tasting an array of varieties and styles, including both good value and premium
bottles.
